We Empower Communities to Break the Cycle of Poverty

Who We Are

At RAAP, we believe that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the chance to lead a meaningful life.

Rukungiri Action Against Poverty (RAAP) is a grassroots, community-driven organization committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in Rukungiri District, Uganda. Founded with the belief that real change begins at the local level, we focus on empowering the most vulnerable—especially children, youth, and women—through practical, sustainable solutions.

Our work is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and long-term impact. We provide educational support for disadvantaged children, vocational training and mentorship for youth, and economic empowerment opportunities for women. We also promote health and nutrition, support small-scale farming, and partner with local leaders to strengthen communities from within.

Our Approach

We Facilitate Safe Learning Spaces

At Rukungiri Action Against Poverty, we understand that learning is the foundation of lasting change—but learning cannot thrive in unsafe or unstable environments. That’s why we prioritize creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning spaces for children and youth in our community

Whether it’s by renovating dilapidated classrooms, providing desks and school supplies, or training teachers to support learners emotionally and academically, we work to ensure every child feels safe and valued. We also engage parents and community leaders in the education journey, encouraging them to take ownership and protect learning environments.

Our approach goes beyond buildings—we create spaces where students are free from fear, abuse, and discrimination. By nurturing safety and support, we empower young people to focus, grow, and unlock their full potential.

— Our Story

Rukungiri Action Against Poverty was born from a simple but powerful belief: that every person has the right to live with dignity and purpose. Founded by local leaders and volunteers who saw firsthand the deep challenges faced by families in Rukungiri, we began by helping children stay in school and supporting mothers with small business tools.

What started as small acts of compassion has grown into a vibrant, community-led movement for change. Over the years, we’ve expanded our work to include youth training, women’s empowerment, healthcare initiatives, and sustainable agriculture programs—all driven by the needs and voices of the people we serve.
